CHARGE OF ATTEMPTING TO TRAP BEAR DISMISSED
A Buena Vista man has been found not guilty of attempting to illegally trap a bear.Lonnie Lee Beverley was charged in September with attempting to take a bear by illegal methods, a misdemeanor, after state game officials staked out a site with meat hanging from a tree with a snare underneath it.
Beverley denied knowledge of anything illegal at the time, and a Nelson County judge recently dismissed the charge after a hearing.
At the time of the incident, hunters were allowed to bait and chase bear, but not to kill them.
