WASTE-TRANSFER STATION SITE SOUGHT IN WYTHE
A 15-acre tract east of Wytheville is being sought by the Joint Public Service Authority of Wythe and Bland counties for a $500,000 solid-waste transfer station. The waste would be transferred to trains or trucks and taken out of the county by a private disposal service for burial elsewhere.
The acreage, owned by B.C. Umberger, lies along the Norfolk Southern Railway track on Virginia 649 near Reed Creek across from the Pendleton Rock Quarry. No option has been obtained on the property, but negotiations are under way.
