Mill Mountain is presenting "Beard of Satan" by Tom Evans. The public is invited to rehearsals as well as the performances of both plays Sunday.
"We're enthused about the opportunity to participate in a statewide project that recognizes the importance of the production of new plays, and also draws attention to Virginia playwrights," said Richard Rose, Barter's artistic director.
"As Barter develops programs along these lines, we look forward to collaborations with Virginia theaters, playwrights and arts organizations."
Rose will direct "Deja Vu" and Chip Egan will direct "Beard of Satan."
Virginia TheaterWorks was created in 1987 through the Virginia Commission for the Arts. The workshop is carried out in cooperation with ShenanArts, Shenandoah Playwrights Retreat and the Norfolk Southern Festival of New Works. Its aim is to promote production of work by Virginia writers and encourage Virginia theaters to produce new plays.
