WADE'S SUPERMARKET TO MOVE ACROSS STREET
Wade's Supermarket plans to move its Blacksburg store across South Main Street to the former Lowe's food store in Blacksburg Square Shopping Center.Scott Wade, director of operations for the local grocery chain, said the move was unrelated to the recent bankruptcy filing by the Gables Partnership, landlord for Wade's store in Gables Shopping Center.
In fact, Wade's will continue selling a limited stock at Gables until its lease expires there in about a year.
"It won't have as much variety, but we will keep the Gables store open," he said.
Wade said he hopes that its new 21,000-square-foot store will open in Blacksburg Square by March.
Workers already have started renovating the space.
In addition to the former Lowe's store, Wade's also will lease the 15,000-square-foot-space next door and use it as a seating area for the store's deli.
There will be seats for about 65 people, Wade said.
Wade's relationship with Gables has deteriorated in the last few years since Harris teeter signed a lease to move into the shopping center.
Harris Teeter plans to move in later this year.
