BOBCATS' SURGE DROPS DEMONS 62-46
Chris Hairston poured in 25 points and Radford used a third-quarter surge to defeat Christiansburg 62-46 in a New River District boys' basketball game on Friday night.The Bobcats broke open the game in the third quarter with a 22-8 run.
Kris Smith added 11 points for Radford (5-9 overall, 1-1 district), which hit 56 percent of its field-goal attempts and outscored the Demons 15-4 on free throws.
John Hairston led Christiansburg (1-14, 0-3) with 17 points and Kevin McDowell added 11. The Demons shot 31 percent. \

BLAND - Bland took the lead for good on a three-point play by Andy Selfe with 2:30 remaining, and the Rockets went on to register the Mountain Empire District victory over the Pioneers.
Bland (9-5, 7-5) iced the victory by making its free throws in the waning minutes.
David Lambert scored 19 points to lead the Rockets.
Fort Chiswell (8-5, 6-5) got 20 points from Steve Widner, who hit six 3-pointers. \

Terry Millirons led the way with 15, followed by Todd Collins, John Reed and Matt Davis with 13 apiece.
Darrell Bibb paced Shawsville with a game-high 24. \

FLOYD - A 17-7 second-quarter run helped the Buffaloes topple the Maroon Tide in a Mountain Empire District matchup.
Jason Light scored a game-high 22 points for Floyd (9-3, 9-3), Mike Hylton added 14 and Jeremiah Slusher 10.
Jeff Spells led Galax (9-3, 8-2) with 17 points, Wilbert Campbell had 13 and Matt Snow 10. \

FOREST - Ryan Gilleland's 21 points led the Cavaliers to a Seminole District victory over the Bees.
The Cavaliers (9-5, 9-5) led by six entering the fourth quarter then sprinted away, scoring 29 points, to turn the game into a rout.
Scott Spencer added 12 points for Jefferson Forest.
Jason Gorsline had 12 points for Brookville. \

APPOMATTOX - Mike Moon scored eight of his 18 points in a pivotal fourth quarter as the Golden Eagles rallied past the Raiders in a Seminole District game.
Eric Flood scored 11 points and Mike Williams had three second-half 3-pointers and 11 points for Staunton River (7-7, 7-7), which trailed 35-28 at halftime.
Chris Dillon scored 14 and Tyrone Hancock 13 for Appomattox (7-8, 7-8).
