EX-FRANKLIN CHIEF LOOKS AT OLD JOB

Richard Huff apparently is one of a handful of finalists for his old job: Franklin County administrator.

Huff was Franklin County administrator from 1985 until June 1991, when he left to take an assistant administrator's job in Albermarle County.

Huff, sources said, was scheduled to come to Rocky Mount on Friday night to interview for the position.

Contacted Friday morning at his office in Charlottesville, Huff would not comment.

"There's just nothing I can say at this time," he said.

Board members would not comment, either, although Boone District Supervisor Homer Murray did say the board already had interviewed two candidates and was to interview three more candidates Friday night.

Board Chairman Wayne Angell said the board hoped to name a new administrator by March.

John Lester resigned last fall and left the job Dec. 31.

If the board hires Huff, it wouldn't be the first time it rehired a former county administrator.

Billy Beckett resigned the Franklin County post in August 1983 to take an assistant county manager job in Florida.

By December of that year, after conducting a national search, the board rehired Beckett.

Beckett left again in January 1985, after three supervisors were accused of undermining him.
