FUTURE DEVELOPMENT ALONG BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY WEIGHED
An ad hoc committee of developers, preservationists and government officials met Friday to discuss the future of development along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Roanoke County. The group is trying to come up with ways to accommodate residential growth near the parkway without destroying the natural vistas that draw motorists to the county along the scenic highway.
"We're still brainstorming," said Terry Harrington, director of the county's Planning Department, which organized the committee.
Members of the committee include Richard Whitney, president of Fralin & Waldron Inc.; Lynn Davis, Friends of the Parkway; Bob Hope and Peter Givens of the National Park Service; and Len Boone, a developer who is suing the county for the right to develop 235 acres along the parkway in the Back Creek section.
