NAMES & CHANGES

RICHARD J. SOLTIS has been appointed manager of manufacturing operation worldwide for the rock drill division of Ingersoll-Rand Co. in Roanoke.

Since joining the power tool division of the firm in 1973, he has held many positions of increasing responsibility in manufacturing engineering, manufacturing, materials and business systems.

Soltis received a masters degree in business administration from Lynchburg College in 1992.

ACCOUNTING

\ C.J. KING and CLARK M. COLE have announced the formation of Cole & King, a certified public accounting firm located at 2707 Brambleton Ave. The pair has over 20 years experience in individual, corporate and partnership taxation, auditing and reviewing financial statements, and financial advisory services. King also holds the designation of Certified Fraud Examiner. Cole was formerly the chief financial officer of Newbern Trane.

EMPLOYMENT

\ W.R. THOMPSON has been named a personnel consultant at USA Employment Inc., a permanent placement agency in Roanoke. He formerly worked as an employment center director for National Business College in Salem and assistant placement director at North Carolina State University in Raleigh.

INSURANCE

\ NANCY SMITH has been appointed manager of professional relations at Delta Dental Plan of Virginia. She will work as the liaison between dentists and Delta Dental, communicating the company's policies to dental professionals. An employee since 1986, she most recently worked as regional manager of marketing.

\ W. NEAL MENEFEE has been named president and chief executive officer of Rockingham Mutual Insurance Cos. of Harrisonburg, a firm with offices in Roanoke. A vice president of company operations since March 1991, he succeeds \ C. ROBERT HEATH who has retired after 32 years with the company. Heath will work as a consultant to the firm and serve as a member of the board of directors.

LAW

\ LEANNE M. SHANK, formerly an associate with Natkin and Heslep, P.C. in Lexington, has becomea stockholder and principal in the firm. A graduate of the State University of New York at Oswego and the University of North Carolina School of Law at Chapel Hill, she previously practiced with the law firm of Dickstein, Shapiro, and Morin in Washington and Woods Rogers & Hazlegrove in Roanoke.

MANUFACTURING

\ ROBERT C. KAMEL, of Roanoke has been promoted to vice president in charge of sales and marketing at Plantation Pride Bakers, a specialty bread company in Salem. He previously worked as sales manager.

\ JIM GAUTIER has been named plant manager of Marshall Concrete Products' ready mix operation in Pearisburg. He will be responsible for the daily operation of the facility and oversee all maintenance for the plant, delivery vehicles and support equipment. He will also oversee all ready mix and masonry block sales in Giles and surrounding counties. Prior to his appointment, he worked as a salesperson for the Pearisburg operation.

MEDICINE

\ ROBERT S. SITLER has joined the staff of Virginia Baptist Hospital as a clinical psychologist. His primary responsibilities include conducting psychological testing at Pathways Treatment Center and Bridges Child and Adolescent Treatment Center. He previously worked as an associate psychologist at Hawthorn Children's Psychiatric Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

ORGANIZATIONS

\ EDWIN C. HALL, president of Edwin C. Hall Associates Inc. in Roanoke, has been elected president-elect of the Virginia Association of Realtors.

\ JUDIE HOUCK, sales manager at John Stewart Walker, Inc. in Lynchburg, has been elected president of the Virginia Real Estate Educational Foundation, the educational affiliate of the Virginia Association of Realtors.

The Roanoke Valley Paralegal Association has elected the following officers: president, SUZY SHOBER SAUERWALD, Johnson, Ayers & Matthews; vice president, MARGIE BOWMAN, Wooten & Hart; secretary, ROSE MARIE DUDLEY, Conflict Resolution Center; and treasurer, CASEY DUGAN, Glenn, Flippen, Feldman & Darby. CAROL DOUDIKEN, DEE KING, LORRIE McCLOSKEY, LAURA SKEEN and LOIS SUMPTER have been elected to the board of directors.

TRANSPORTATION

R.C. (CURT) STEELE JR. has been appointed assistant vice president-material management at Norfolk Southern. He will be based in Roanoke.

A graduate of Hampden-Sydney College who also holds a law degree from Washington and Lee University, he most recently was assistant vice president for personnel. He joined a Norfolk Southern predecessor, Norfolk and Western Railway, in 1974 as a solicitor in the company's law department, and moved to the labor relations department in 1979, becoming assistant vice president for labor Relations in 1980.

He transferred to the personnel department in 1991, when he assumed his most recent position, with management responsibility for Norfolk Southern's personnel department.

Also, RASHE W. (RAY) STEPHENS JR. has been named assistant vice president-public affairs for Norfolk Southern in Washington. The company's public affairs department in Washington has responsibility for legislative and public policy issues as they relate to the corporation's business. He previously worked as director of Equal Employment Opportunity and Manpower Planning.
