BLUES MUSICIAN JACKSON WILL APPEAR IN WYTHEVILLE
Blues musician John Jackson, who has performed throughout the United States and in more than 60 other countries, will give a free concert at Wytheville Community College on Friday at 8 p.m. in the Grayson Hall Commons.The performance is being presented during Black History Month by the school's Cultural Affairs Committee, Student Activities Committee and Educational Foundation.
Born the seventh son in a family of tenant farmers, Jackson got his only instruction in music from a water carrier on a chain gang who worked near his home.
Jackson has gone on to perform for presidents, members of Congress, European royalty and heads of state around the globe. He received the National Endowment for the Arts Heritage Award in 1986. Besides being a musician, songwriter and recording artist, he has been a farmer, chauffeur, butler, philosopher, humanitarian, Civil War historian and gravedigger.
