CLINTON MIGHT CHOOSE LEADER OF SABBATICALS
The organizer of the "Renaissance Weekend," an intellectual sabbatical made famous during President Clinton's New Year's vacation, is expected to land a job in the Clinton administration, officials say.Phil Lader, president of Bond University in Queensland, Australia, is slated to become deputy director for management at the Office of Management and Budget, an administration official said Saturday.
"It's clearly what's happening, but it's not clear when," the official said. Lader has visited the OMB offices, according to the official.
Lader is former president of Winthrop College - now Winthrop University - in Rock Hill, S.C. He ran for the Democratic nomination for governor in 1986, but withdrew during a runoff. He also is a former chief of Sea Pines Co., a principal developer on Hilton Head Island. Lader has lived in Australia for about a year.
His year-end weekend gatherings on Hilton Head feature panel discussions on personal and political topics. Clinton has attended during the past nine years.
