CONDEMNED KILLER STOPS APPEALS

Condemned murderer Mickey Wayne Davidson has suspended his appeal of his death sentence scheduled for Wednesday in the electric chair, his attorney said.

Anthony Anderson said Saturday that Davidson - convicted July 11, 1991, in the beating death of his wife and two stepdaughters - no longer wishes to stay his execution or pursue further appeals.

"He just says he wants it [the motion for a stay] withdrawn. He is faced with the prospect of life in prison or execution. He said he would prefer execution," Anderson said.

Anderson said a judge must determine if Davidson is competent to make such a decision. A hearing on the matter is set for Monday before Smyth County Circuit Court Judge Charles Smith.

Anderson said Davidson currently is at the Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt awaiting execution.

Davidson, 35, was sentenced to die after he admitted killing his wife, Doris Davidson, 36, and his two stepdaughters, Mamie Clatterbuck, 14, and Tammy Clatterbuck, 13. Davidson bludgeoned them to death with a crowbar at the family's Saltville home June 13, 1990.
