BYRD FREE THROWS SINK CAVE SPRING
William Byrd converted 13 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter Saturday night to defeat Cave Spring 69-60 in a non-district high school boys' basketball game.David Robertson had 16 points, Donnie Childress 14 and Chris Adcock 13 for the Terriers, who led 45-30 after three quarters.
Cave Spring (5-11) pulled to within seven points in the fourth quarter, but Byrd put the game away at the free-throw line. Robbie Hibbs led the Knights with 15 points, Matt Matheny had 11 and Steve Kagey added 10. \

RIDGEWAY - Evan Penn and Marcus Toney combined for 42 points as the Warriors knocked off the Spartans in a non-district game.
Magna Vista led 73-63 early in the fourth quarter until Rodney Tanks and Tony Holmes fouled out. Salem closed to three points but was unable to sink a 3-pointer for the win.
Penn scored 22 points, Toney had 20 for the Warriors (10-4). Mark Byington led Salem (9-3) with 33 points. \

CHATHAM - Inus Norville scored 38 points as the Tigers romped over the Celtics for a Virginia Independent Conference win.
Maceo Sloan scored 15 and Rod Cobb added 13 for Hargrave.
Charles Cunningham scored 16 to lead Roanoke Catholic (4-17, 2-6). \

ROCKY MOUNT - Derek Bryant scored 18 points as the Eagles downed the Patriots in a Roanoke Valley District game.
Franklin County led by nine at halftime, 34-25, but Patrick Henry used a zone in the third quarter to shut down the Eagles, outscoring them 9-1, and trailed by a point. Jammie Hale scored 11 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter as Franklin County outscored the Patriots 26-23 for the win.
Maurice Preston scored 17 points to lead Patrick Henry. \

Roanoke Valley Christian 79
Timberlake Christian had the hot hand in the third quarter, outscoring the Eagles 32-12, and survived a furious comeback to win the Virginia Independent Conference game.
Roanoke Valley Christian (4-8 overall, 3-6 conference) cut it to 80-79 with 28 seconds left, but Timberlake (10-7, 2-6) hit a free throw and RVC turned the ball over on its following possession. A foul with seven seconds left and two more Timberlake free throws produced the final margin. Brad Suhr had 14 points and Josh MacDermod 13 for the Eagles. \

Jenny Coons scored 12 points and Kimberly Rakes and Tiffany Hogan added 10 each as the Eagles rolled over the Tornadoes for a Blue Ridge Conference win.
Roanoke Valley Christian (8-8, 7-2) jumped out to an 18-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. \
