OBIT-PAINE, EDITH DAVIS, ("BABS")
PAINE, Edith Davis, ("Babs"), 61, of Roanoke, died at her home, Saturday
night, January 30, 1993, of cancer. Miss Paine was the daughter of the late
Edith Emily Davis Paine and Robert E. Paine and granddaughter of the late Dr.
and Mrs. John Gibson Davis, all of Roanoke. She was a graduate of
Randolph-Macon Women's College and spent her entire working career as a
certified laboratory technologist at Lewis-Gale Hospitals. She was a member of
Calvary Baptist Church. As a charter member of Roanoke's Master Gardeners, she
organized and was president of their association, restoring Fishburn Rose
Gardens at Mountain View and other projects and was an active board member
with Valley Beautiful. She was an avid sports fan and participated in bowling
and tennis. Babs is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Robert E.
Paine Jr and Alice Paine, Salem; niece, Emily Paine Brady, Salem; nephew,
Robert Parson Paine, Atlanta, Ga.; great-niece and great-nephew, Caroline
Alice Brady, Salem and Erik Paine Brady, University of Va. Funeral services
will be conducted at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, by the Rev.
Dennis Herman and Dr. Harry Y. Gamble. Burial will be at Evergreen Burial
Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Roanoke
S.P.C.A., Community Arboretum of Virginia Western Community College, your
favorite environmental group or Calvary Baptist Church of Roanoke. Friends may
call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel where the family will receive friends from 2 to
4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
