SALEM BANK PLANS TO OPEN 5TH BRANCH
Salem Bank and Trust plans to open a new branch on Williamson Road in Roanoke County about mid-year.Clark Owen, president, said Monday the bank has applied to the U.S. controller of the currency to operate the branch, and approval is expected to take 60 to 90 days. He said the decision to open the bank's fifth location was driven by continuing growth.
The proposed site, at 7337 Williamson Road, must be renovated before it can open, Owen said. He said the expansion will give Salem Bank and Trust access to a new market in the North Roanoke County area.
The site was an office of the former Colonial American National Bank. It was closed after that bank's 1989 merger into Crestar Bank. Owen said Crestar later sold the property. - Staff report \
