BARITONE TO PRESENT W&L CONCERT

Baritone William Shap, winner of the Carnegie Hall International American Music Competition and a 1989 Grammy nominee, will present the next concert in Washington and Lee University's Concert Guild series Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Lenfest Center for the Performing Arts.

Accompanied by pianist Steven Plier, Sharp will perform works by a number of composers including Richard Strauss, Gabriel Faure, F. Paolo Tosti, Luigi Denza, Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin and others.

Sharp was nominated for a 1989 Grammy Award for Best Classical Vocal Performance for his recording featuring the works of American composers on the New World Records label.

He can also be heard on the 1990 Grammy-winning world premiere recording of Bernstein's "Arias and Barcarolles" with soprano Judy Kaye on the Koch International label.
