HELP-WANTED ADS NO BETTER
The Conference Board of New York, a business research organization, said its monthly help-wanted advertising index held steady at 95 points in December and was only marginally better than the 90 points registered in December 1991. The index is based on classified employment advertising volume in 51 major U.S. newspapers. In the South Atlantic area, which includes Virginia, the index stood at 103 points, up from 102 in November and 88 in December 1991.
The lack of a significant increase in the index suggests a general recovery is "more than a few months down the road," said Conference Board economist Ken Goldstein. - Staff report
