FACTS ON ADULT DAY CARE AT VIRGINIA TECH . . .

Q: Who is the center for?

A: It is for impaired or disabled adults, to give them a chance to socialize and exercise. And it is for the families who need time to work, a break, or time to themselves.

Q: Do you have to enroll in day care every day?

A: No, says Puspa Das, director of the center. "You can come every day, once a week or once in a while." Even adults who use the center only sporadically will have to be enrolled, which includes an interview and an update on records.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: $25 a day. The center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. A hot lunch is provided free, courtesy of the New River Valley Agency on Aging. The center staff welcomes you to bring your family members to see the program and tour the facilities. During that visit you can use up to four hours of the service at no cost.

Q: What facilities do they have?

A: A big activities room, an observation room, a rest area with two beds and an area that could be used with the child-care center next door for activities between the generations. An enclosed porch with a view of the child-care center next door will be used in warm weather.

If you would like to tour the facilities, or need further information, call 231-3161.
