MARIJUANA GROWING AT VICTIM'S HOME
Investigators remained unsure Tuesday whether marijuana found growing at the home of a man apparently murdered several months ago had any connection with his death."We don't know that," Grayson County Sheriff Herbert McKnight said regarding the shooting death of Albert Hamilton Sr., 68.
Hamilton's body was recovered from the New River on Saturday by searchers from Grayson and Carroll counties and Galax, and by dogs from Maryland trained to detect scents over water.
Hamilton lived alone and had not been seen since mid-December. An autopsy, which revealed he had been shot in the head and neck, also showed he could have been dead from the start of the time he was missing.
The victim lived in the Comers Rock section of Grayson County. His body had been tied to a cinder block.
He had never been charged in connection with growing or selling marijuana, McKnight said. "He'd never been arrested for anything here."
McKnight said four guns were found in the river with the body: two .22-caliber rifles, a 20-gauge shotgun, and a .30-06 rifle.
He said it is not known whether the guns belonged to the victim or someone else.
