OBIT BRIGGS, HOWARD W.

BRIGGS, Howard W., 78, of Shawsville, passed away February 2, 1993 at his home. He was born on August 28, 1914 in Floyd County, Va., the son of the late Lawrence B. Briggs and Ruth West Briggs. He attended Shawsville Baptist Church. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II, and was a retired employee of the Radford Ammunition Plant. He also worked for Camp Christy in Christiansburg. He was well loved and respected in his community, donating his time and talent to his church and friends. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Catherine Hicks Briggs, Shawsville; two devoted nieces, Linda Homelberg, Atlanta, Ga., Brenda Rogers, Fincastle; a devoted nephew, Samuel L. Briggs, Roanoke; two brothers, Lawrence Briggs Jr., Pamplin, Va., Isiah S. Briggs, Shawsville; two sisters, Ivor Claytor, Atlanta, Ga., Olie Finley, Bluefield, W.Va.; a devoted cousin, John Deskins, Roanoke; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, 1 p.m. at Shawsville Baptist Church with the Rev. Erdie Trigg and the Rev. Kenneth Norman will officiate. Burial will be in Shawsville Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the church.
