PLAN TO RAISE LAW PAY AT W&M UNDER ATTACK

Some faculty members at the College of William and Mary have accused the school's president of playing favorites in his plan to raise the salaries of law professors by 12 percent.

Arts and sciences faculty members voted Tuesday to ratify a resolution critical of the plan. William and Mary President Timothy Sullivan wants to raise tuition at the law school about $300 to pay for the salary increases. The General Assembly would have to approve the tuition increase.

Sullivan was dean of the college's Marshall-Wythe School of Law for seven years before becoming president in April. He said the raise was needed to bring Marshall-Wythe closer in line with other law schools. - Associated Press
