OBIT NEWMAN, FLORENCE CUTTS
NEWMAN, Florence Cutts, 92, died Tuesday, February 2, 1993 at Lewis-Gale
Hospital. She was a resident of the Richfield Retirement Community, Salem. She
was the fifth child born to the late Robert Lee Cutts and Katherine Morris
Cutts, Chase City. Born October 9, 1900, she received her B.A. degree from
Longwood College, Farmville, and a master's degree from Columbia University,
New York. She was a dedicated teacher with most of her work taking place on
Long Island, N.Y. She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Newman,
East Islip, Long Island, N.Y. Surviving are a sister and her husband, Mabel
Cutts Hutton and Dr. Frederick Hutton, Delray Beach, Fla.; a brother and
sister-in-law, Robert E. Cutts and Louise Garner Cutts, Richfield Retirement
Community, Salem; also several nieces and nephews. She was a former member of
New Hope Baptist Church, Skipwith, where graveside services will be conducted
11 a.m. Friday with Glenwood Gillispie officiating. Those wishing to do so may
direct memorial contributions to Richfield Foundation, Florence Newman
Memorial Garden Fund, 3730 Knollridge Rd., Salem, VA 24153. Bevell Funeral
Service, Chase City, in charge of the arrangements.
