Soap Box Derby racers may sign up Saturday

The Roanoke Area Soap Box Derby will hold a sign-up clinic Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Crossroads Mall.

The derby is open to boys and girls ages 8-16. Four divisions are run in the Roanoke-area event: stock car, kit car, master division and dual control. Winners in the first three divisions receive a trip to the All-American Championships in Akron, Ohio. The dual control division is for handicapped drivers with co-drivers who help when needed. The Roanoke derby will be June 26 at Walrond Park.

AAU 15-and-under girls' basketball tryouts set

The Roanoke Stars AAU basketball team for girls 15 and younger will hold tryouts Sunday and Feb. 14. For information, call Bob Hicks at 265-0589 or Kim Radford at 342-0273.
