STUDENT TAUNTS WERE IN POOR TASTE
SOME OF Liberty University's student fans stepped over the line of good sportsmanship at the Liberty-Radford basketball game Jan. 28 at the Vines Center. As one of many possible patrons from the community that Liberty is trying to interest in its sports programs, I came to see what I hoped would be a good contest between two quality schools. Members of Radford's team were being introduced to taunts of "who's she" just minutes after the prayer from Chancellor Jerry Falwell.
Throughout the game, some of the Liberty fans shouted "you boy" over and over at players from the other team. That, simply put, is taunting. That's also the difference between cheering for the good play of your team and disrespecting the team that you are playing.
After all, the conduct of the student body reflects on that college. The image that was left with me that night was not what I think Liberty University is supposed to be about. RUSSELL PLEASANTS LYNCHBURG
