Finance company plans food collection for RAM

Commercial Credit's Roanoke offices will sponsor a canned-food drive Monday through Feb. 20 to benefit Roanoke Area Ministries.

Non-perishable food items may be taken to either location: 6701 Peters Creek Road, Suite 107, or 2040 Electric Road S.W.

Hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.o

Veterans Council elects 1993 officers, board

The Roanoke Valley Veterans Council recently elected officers for 1993.

They are: Dan Karnes, president; Corky B. Coughlin, vice president; Harold Worrell, treasurer; Dallas W. Proax Jr., secretary; Waynard Caldwell, sergeant-at-arms; and Thomas Berger, chaplain.

The following members will serve on the board of directors: Sloan H. Hoopes, Thomas R. Plymale, Steve Goodwin, Andy W. Bryson, Milton Aliff and Harvey M. Barker.

Roanoke EMS group names 1993 officers

Roanoke Emergency Medical Services Inc. has named officers for 1993.

They are: Sidney F. Robertson, president; Kenneth L. Harper, operations officer; Charles H. Carroll, Station No. 2 captain; Timothy L. Harper, Station No. 3 captain; Steve Kaylor, personnel officer; Thomas Langhorn, equipment coordinator; June Wilkes, training officer; Sally McKinney, secretary; and Sophie Thompson, treasurer.

Robertson is chairman of the board. Other board members are Kenneth Harper, Carroll, Timothy Harper, Wilkes, Thompson, David C. Anderson, Lewis W. Peery, Douglas H. Hyre and Joseph L. Austin.

Arabian horse group names 1992 winners

The Virginian Arabian Horse Association District 2 recently announced its 1992 high point award winners.

The horses were ranked according to their performance in all shows entered during the year. The winners are:

Arabian Versatility Award - Champion, So-Radames, owned by Star-Ro Stables of Roanoke, ridden by Cindy Quick of Roanoke (65 points); reserve champion, S.R.S. Bint Mamona owned by Star-Ro Stables, ridden by Quick; third place, S.R.F. Canarius owned by Dale Lentz of Fincastle, ridden by Katie Ryder; fourth place, Rolakandie owned by Ronnie and Gilda Carroll, ridden by Gilda Carroll; fifth place, Bonalisa owned and ridden by Trish Craig; sixth place, CS Progeym owned and ridden by Debbie Thurman of Troutville.

Arabian Western Pleasure Award - Champion, CS Niabi owned and ridden by Trish Craig of Fincastle (37 points); reserve champion, S.R.S. Bint Mamona; third place, CS Progeym.

Arabian English Pleasure Award - Champion, High Dancers Delight, owned and ridden by Terry Wilson of Christiansburg (20 points); reserve champion, Rolakandie; third place, So-Radames.

Arabian Hunter Pleasure Award - Champion, S.R.F. Canarius (34 points).

Arabian Halter Award - Champion, CS Progeym.

Half-Arabian English Pleasure Award - Champion, Mishs Kamsa, owned and ridden by Terry Wilson of Christiansburg (56 points); reserve champion, Marriag's Denmark, owned and ridden by Katie Ryder.

Half-Arabian Western Pleasure Award - Champion, Mirrages Lady Slippers, owned and ridden by Cynthia Dlinn of Roanoke.

Half-Arabian Versatility Award - Champion, Mishs Kamsa (57 points).

Youth award (open to both Arabians and half-Arabians) - Champion, Kim Campbell of Roanoke, riding Tafitar Sir Anne; reserve champion, Marth Kelly of Rural Retreat, riding Shailendra; third place, Sarah Rickman of Buchanan, riding Doll's BJ Sotep.

Roanoke EMS auxiliary elects 1993 officers

The Roanoke Emergency Medical Services Auxiliary has installed officers for 1993.

They are: Lois Huddleston, president; Linda Barnett, vice president; Sophia Thompson, secretary; Judy Harper, treasurer; Missy Boder, chaplain; and Trish Kaylor, historian.

Huddleston also was named auxiliary member of the year.

The group recently donated two flood lamps, two tool boxes, two storage boxes, a heavy-duty jack and a reciprocating saw to the Roanoke Life Saving Crew for its new crash truck.
