REPORTED EARNINGS

Marriott Corp.

Marriott Corp., a Washington based lodging and restaurant company with franchised operations in Western Virginia, on Thursday reported 1992 net income of $85 million, compared to $82 million a year ago. Earnings per share were 64 cents, compared to 80 cents in 1991. Sales totaled $8.72 billion, up 5 percent from $8.33 billion.

Waste Management

Waste Management Inc., an Oak Brook, Ill., waste collection, reduction and recycling company with operations in Western Virginia, on Thursday reported 1992 net income of $850 million, or $1.72 per share, up 40 percent from $606 million, or $1.23 per share, in 1991. Revenue in 1992 increased 15 percent to $8.66 billion from $7.55 billion.

Net income for the fourth quarter was $182.8 million, or 37 cents per share, against $26.5 million, or 5 cents per share, in the year-earlier period - when the company took a $181 million special charge for future liability under environmental laws.

Fourth-quarter net income after tax and minority interest was reduced by $23.4 million, or about 5 cents per share, as a result of charges by the company's Chemical Waste Management Inc. and The Brand Companies Inc., subsidiaries - reflecting a writedown of Brand's investment in its asbestos-abatement business and the restructuring of operations in connection with the formation of Rust International Inc.

Mod-U-Kraf Homes

Mod-U-Kraf Homes Inc., a Rocky Mount maker of modular homes, apartments and commercial buildings, reported 1992 net income of $252,814, compared with a loss of $47,826 the preceding year. Sales rose 43 percent to $6.9 million from $4.8 million. Fourth-quarter earnings were $52,262, up 16 percent from $45,121 a year earlier. Sales for the quarter were $1.9 million, up from $1.4 million.

The company said First Union National Bank of Charlotte has been appointed transfer agent for Mod-U-Kraf, replacing Piedmont Trust Bank of Martinsville.
