CLINTON TO ABOLISH HIV IMMIGRATION RULE
President Clinton plans to abolish an immigration rule that prohibits HIV-infected persons from entering the United States, the White House said Thursday. But George Stephanopoulos, the president's communications director, said he could not give a date for eliminating the rule - which has caused an international furor - because the government is in the midst of a general review of its Haiti policy.
About 270 Haitians infected with the human immunodeficiency virus that causes AIDS are being detained at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba although they have been approved for political asylum in the United States.
