GAMES ARE MOVED IN WAKE OF SHOOTING
Roanoke Parks and Recreation Department officials have transferred several recreation league basketball games in the aftermath of Monday's shooting at Eureka Park gym.Gary Fenton, manager of parks and recreation, said the games were transferred from Eureka Park after some parents expressed concern about their children's safety.
"We feel the shooting was an isolated event," Fenton said. "We felt, for the sake of the parents, we'd replay those games somewhere else."
Fenton said Thursday he doesn't know where or when the games will be played.
"We responded to people's fears," he said. Anthony L. Wade, 21, of
Orange Avenue was shot in the side Monday afternoon while playing cards in the gym. He remained in Roanoke Memorial Hospital but officials Thursday night would give no word on his condition.
William Kent Smith, 24, of Fairfax Avenue has been charged with malicious wounding.
