OBIT-VAUGHT, MARGARET ANN ZACHARY

VAUGHT, Margaret Ann Zachary, of Galax, Va., died Monday, February 1, 1993. She was born on December 14, 1952, in Winston-Salem, N.C. The first-born child of O.A. "Al" Zachary, Jr. and Pauline Jones Zachary, she became the older sister to James T. Zachary, Rachel A. Zachary, and Sarah E. Zachary. Members of her extended family are Alma Ruth and Richard Vaught; Gay, Ben and Gordon Zachary; and Aaron Donatello. She attended the Galax City Schools, Hiwassee College, and Emory and Henry College. On August 16, 1975, she and Douglas S. Vaught were married in First United Methodist Church of Galax, where she worked as Director of Christian Education. She also worked as Director of the Summer Camping program at Camp Dickenson until her three children, Sarah Allen, Zachary Stephen, and James Douglas became her primary avocation. An avid swimmer, she taught swimming classes for children and adults at the Galax Recreation Center, and participated in the mission of First United Methodist Church of Galax, the Wytheville District, and the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church. Following her death on February 1, 1993, each of us are given the privilege of claiming some of her energy, love, strength, vitality, and friendship and living our life in the brighter glow of her shared life in our community. Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, February 7, 1993, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Galax. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 445, Galax, Virginia 24333, for a scholarship fund for children attending Camp Dickenson, or contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, or the American Lung Association for asthma research.
