CARROLL COUNTY WINS NEW RIVER DISTRICT
Carroll County wrestlers won five championships Friday night as the Cavaliers eased past Christiansburg for the New River District title.
The top four wrestlers from each weight class will advance to the Region IV tournament next Friday and Saturday at Graham High School. Because of illness, there were not enough wrestlers to fill out some classes in the New River tournament; consequently, some classes will advance two or three wrestlers to the regional.
Justin Barnard (112 pounds), Craig Lineberry (119), Charles Lineberry (125), Joseph Martin (152) and Chad McGrady (160) won individual titles for Carroll, which finished with 146 points.
Christiansburg, second with 119, had three champions - Kirk Linkous (103), Charlie Freer (130) and Johnny Crouser (145).
Radford had two champions - Jacob Bondurant (140) and Tommy Tinley (heavyweight) - and finished third. Blacksburg was fourth despite winning three titles - Bryan Henry (135), Kip Kennyon (171) and Doug Dorn (189). \
