RICHMOND broke a 2-2 tie with three straight goals and the Renegades took a 9-4 ECHL victory.\ Roanoke Valley's East Coast Hockey League-record road losing streak reached 23 games Friday night as the Richmond Renegades pummeled the Rampage 9-4 at the Richmond Coliseum.
The loss was Roanoke Valley's 24th in 25 road games this season. The Rampage's only road win came more than three months ago in Johnstown, Pa.
The Renegades broke open a 2-2 game by scoring three unanswered goals in 6 1/2 minutes bridging the first and second periods. After goals by Jack Williams and Ken House brought Roanoke Valley to 5-4, Richmond scored twice in the final 3:26 to retake a three-goal cushion. The Renegades then tacked on two insurance goals in the final period.
Brendan Flynn and Darren Colbourne paced Richmond with two goals each. Paul Dukovac and Ron Jones had the other Roanoke Valley goals.
It was a pivotal win for Richmond (25-21-1), which is locked in a three-way battle with Greensboro and Johnstown for the fourth and final guaranteed playoff berth in the ECHL's Eastern Division.
\ ICE CHIPS: Roanoke Valley (11-36-1) has lost five straight, 21 of 22 and 31 of its past 36 games. . . . The Rampage has been outscored 173-81 in going 1-23-1 on the road. . . . Dukovac's and House's goals were their first since joining the Rampage. . . . It was the ninth win in 11 games for Roy Sommer's Renegades, who improved to 18-6-1 at home. . . . The Nashville Knights make their only visit to the Vinton LancerLot tonight. Nashville is led by high-scoring center Trevor Jobe, who is closing in on Bill McDougall's all-time single-season records for goals and points. \
