`Diamonds and Dinosaurs'"Downtown Dinosaurs," an exhibit at Roanoke's Science Museum of Western Virginia, will host a black tie-optional fund-raiser Saturday from 8-11:30 p.m.
The gala, dubbed "Diamonds and Dinosaurs," will include a benefit auction and a diamond exhibit by Frank L. Moose Jewelers.
Tickets are $30 per person or $50 a couple, and profits benefit the museum. They may be purchased at Frank L. Moose Jewelers or the science museum in Center in the Square, both in downtown Roanoke. Call the museum at 342-5710.
Civil War Weekend
Virginia Tech will sponsor its second annual Civil War Weekend from Feb. 19-20 at the Donaldson Brown Center.
Civil War enthusiasts will see museum pieces and hear music from that era, learn about Southwest Virginia's activities and the role of blacks in the war. They will also participate in a genealogy workshop, view the movie "Glory," and visit re-enactments of Federal and Confederate campsites.
Registration for the weekend is $65 and includes all materials, instruction and meals. For more information, call 231-6285. z
Soprano auditions
The Lynchburg Symphony will hold soprano solo auditions for Rutter's "Magnificat" on Feb. 24 at Court Street United Methodist Church.
The soloist selected will sing the part in an April 25 concert at E.C. Glass High School auditorium featuring the Jefferson Choral Society.

Arts and crafts fair solicits participants
The annual Franklin County Spring Arts & Crafts Fair will be April 17 at Franklin County High School in Rocky Mount.
