SMYTH OFFERS WORKSHOP FOR LITERACY TUTORS

The Smyth County Adult Literacy Enrichment Program will provide a free literacy tutor training workshop Feb. 26, from 5:30 to 9 p.m., and Feb. 27, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Smyth-Bland Regional Library.

Louise Snavely, a certified trainer, will conduct the workshop with help from the program staff using the "Laubach Way to Reading" series.

People interesting in becoming tutors should contact the Smyth County Literacy Office (telephone 783-7950) to register for the training by Feb. 19.

SCALE is a volunteer literacy program providing free individual tutoring in basic reading for adults. Volunteers work with students at their own convenience.

The program is supported by federal grants, county aid, the United Way, private donations and memorial gifts. Judy Taminger is the county's literacy coordinator.
