ALUMNUS GIVES UVA $6.7 MILLION

David A. Harrison, a retired investment banker from Hopewell, has given $6.7 million to the University of Virginia.

Harrison's gift includes $4.5 million to the School of Law's building campaign, $1.7 million to support teaching in the School of Medicine, $400,000 to endow a professorship in archaeology and $100,000 to the athletic department.

"This gift will set the standard by which all other generosity will be measured," Hovey S. Dabney, rector of the board of visitors, said at Saturday's board meeting.

Harrison is a 1939 graduate of the university and a 1941 graduate of its law school.

He has made several other contributions to the university in the past, endowing professorships in medicine and law.
