LEE SPARKS MAROONS PAST TIGERS 85-76
Bryant Lee scored 21 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked two shots Saturday as Roanoke defeated Hampden-Sydney 85-76 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference basketball game at Bast Center in Salem.Roanoke (14-5 overall, 9-4 ODAC) had a 48-40 lead at halftime and did not let Hampden-Sydney back into the game.
"Bryant did a heck of a job for us on both ends of the floor," Roanoke coach Page Moir said. "Bryant really wanted the ball on the offensive end, and both he and Hilliary [Scott] did an outstanding job on the defensive boards."
Lee made nine of 10 shots from the floor. Scott, Roanoke's leading scorer and rebounder, had 20 points and 15 rebounds. Kevin Martin added 19 points.
The Maroons, who had shot less that 50 percent from the floor in six of their previous seven outings, hit 58.3 percent (28-of-48). Twenty of Roanoke's made field goals came from inside 3 feet, and the Maroons also sank 29 of 41 free-throw attempts.
The Tigers, who trailed by 16 in the opening half, shot 33.3 percent in the first half and 33.7 percent (29-of-86) for the game.
Everett Joyner led Hampden-Sydney (8-11, 4-9) with 25 points. Jason Leonard had 14 and former William Fleming standout Tee Jennings added 10. \
