TWO MODERATE QUAKES HIT ALASKA
Two moderate earthquakes hit Alaska on Saturday, hundreds of miles apart. No injuries or damage were reported. The first quake, which measured 4.3 on the Richter scale, struck far out in the Pacific near the Aleutian Islands, said Wayne Jorgensen, a spokesman for the Alaska Tsunami Warning Center.
It hit at 3:04 a.m. and was centered about 60 miles south of Adak Island, but posed no tsunami threat, Jorgensen said.
The second, a 4.8-magnitude quake, struck the mainland about 60 miles northwest of Talkeetna at 6:24 a.m., he said.
