POWERS THAT BE IGNORE LOCAL TALENT
WELL, we've lost another one! The Roanoke Times & World-News carried an article Jan. 29 concerning Bob Brammer, former airport operations chief, who has had to leave his job of 20-years-making in his hometown to progress in his profession. This was brought about by the fact that the city fathers, et al., with the power went outside our valley to fill a job that Brammer was perfectly capable of filling. I commend the people in Richmond for recognizing his potential. As director of operations for the Richmond International Airport, he is, without a doubt, ahead of the game in many ways.
The thing that causes concern is the continued trend of losing our people, over whom we have little control in most cases. But in this case, we did! Much is being written in your paper about our local economy and what we need to do to stimulate jobs for our own. When is this to start?
I hope the brick masons, carpenters, plumbers, etc., who were not hired locally to build the Dominion building, and others take heart and realize they are not alone in being ignored by our valley's powers that be. EVELYN C. FRANTZ ROANOKE
