OBIT WILLIAMS, JESSIE LUKE JR.

WILLIAMS, Jessie Luke Jr., 77, of Pembroke, Va., died Saturday evening February 6, 1993 in a Pearisburg hospital. Born in Pembroke, he was a son of the late Jessie L. Sr. and Grace Gillespie Williams. A legend in his community, he became known by names he gave himself, sometimes as "Mountain Man," "Yankee," or "Duke." He served his neighbors as a handyman and general helper and friend, especially of the children. Surviving are his sisters, Marcie and Mary Williams, Pembroke; a brother, Joe Williams, Radford; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke with burial in the Fillinger Cemetery nearby. The funeral home will be open for visitation after 2 p.m. Monday.
