Tultex Corp., Martinsville fleece-wear maker with plants in Roanoke, Bland and Smyth counties, on Tuesday reported net income for fiscal 1992 up 62 percent to $17.2 million, or 56 cents per share, from $10.6 million, or 37 cents per share, a year earlier. Sales rose 44 percent to $503.9 million from year-earlier $349.9 million.In the fourth quarter, earnings were $11.7 million, or 40 cents per share, up 57 percent from $7.5 million, or 26 cents per share. Hardee's Food Systems Inc., Rocky Mount, N.C., franchiser and operator of fast-food restaurants, on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter operating earnings of $21.7 million, up almost five times from $4.4 million in the 1991 period. Operating earnings for the year were $63.1 million, up 57 percent. Systemwide sales for the quarter were $1.2 billion, up 13 percent; twelve-month systemwide sales rose 9 percent to $4.8 billion. Revenues in the quarter rose 13 percent to $495 million; revenues for the year were $2 billion, up 7 percent. VF Corp.
VF Corp., Wyomissing, Pa., parent of Bassett-Walker Inc. of Martinsville, on Tuesday reported 1992 sales of $3.8 billion, up 30 percent from 1991. Net income increased 47 percent to $237 million, or $3.97 per share, from $161 million, or $2.75 per share.
Fourth-quarter sales rose 21 percent to $1 billion from $850 million in the 1991 quarter. Earnings rose 46 percent to $71 million, or $1.18 per share, from $48 million, or 83 cents per share, in the 1991 quarter.
