Chuck Thompson, who began announcing Baltimore Orioles games even before the team joined the major leagues, has been voted the 1993 recipient of the Hall of Fame's Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasting. The award will be formally presented on Aug. 1 in Cooperstown, N.Y., during the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. For several decades, Thompson's smooth style has been heard in the Baltimore area and along the East Coast on the strong radio stations carrying Orioles games. He retired as a full-time announcer after the 1982 season.
