EDUCATOR AND ANNOUNCER CLAYTON CAMDEN DIES

Clayton Camden, for more than three decades the "Voice of the Fighting Blues" football team of Buena Vista's Parry McCluer High School, died Monday. He was 70.

From 1951 to 1971, Camden was principal of Mountain View Elementary, Parry McCluer High and Parry McCluer Elementary schools. After that, he was director of instruction for Buena Vista public schools for another 11 years.

"He was always connected with the school system in some capacity," said Ken Hammack, principal of Buena Vista's Enderly Heights Elementary School for 22 years.

Camden was the public address announcer at high school football games for 36 years. Parry McCluer's football field was dedicated to him upon his retirement.

He was active in many civic and church activities, and was named Buena Vista's Citizen of the Year in 1975.

The funeral will be held Thursday at Buena Vista Baptist Church. Lomax Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
