Show in the skyThe Science Museum of Western Virginia will present its quarterly Skywatch program in Hopkins Planetarium in downtown Roanoke's Center in the Square on Friday.
The star show will feature highlights from this month's sky and the locally produced planetarium show "Jewels of the Night." A telescopic observing at Green Hill Park in Roanoke County will follow, weather permitting.
Admission to the 6:30 show is $1.50. The telescopic viewing will begin at 8 p.m. Call 342-5710.
Art show taking entries
Entries for the 14th Annual Roanoke City Art Show, on view May 22-July 11 at Roanoke's Art Museum of Western Virginia, are now being accepted.
Artists and craftspeople age 18 and older may submit slides of their work by 5 p.m. March 22.
John Perreault, senior curator of the American Craft Museum in New York City, will jury the show from the slides. Perreault has lectured and written on contemporary art, crafts and design for Art News, Art in America, The Village Voice and American Craft magazines.
The city of Roanoke will award $500 to the artist whose work is judged Best in Show, and $100 to the artist whose work is selected as the People's Choice. Five $200 awards of excellence will also be awarded.

Reunions

Artemis reading
Artemis will hold its annual business meeting and reading Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at Studios on the Square in downtown Roanoke.
Area poetry and fiction writers who will read from their works include Judy Ayyildiz, Joan Schroeder, Eric Trethewey, Jennifer Hollingsworth Austin, Sydney Sowers, Katherine Stuart, Carol Murphy and Robert Bess.
An art show will feature Artemis' first invitational exhibit, coordinated by Brian Sieveking.
Cellist Erica Lipps and violist Margaret Bourdeaux will give a musical presentation.
Suggested donation for the event is $5.
Short story contest
BIG STONE GAP - Original stories are being sought for the annual Lonesome Pine Short Story Contest held each year in conjunction with the John Fox Jr. Festival at Mountain Empire Community College.
