SURGEON SUES MEDICAL BOARD FOR $73 MILLION

An orthopedic surgeon cleared of a drunken-driving charge because she had premenstrual syndrome has filed a $73 million lawsuit against the Virginia Board of Medicine for allegedly trying to discredit her.

Dr. Geraldine K. Richter received national attention when her lawyer said PMS was to blame for her driving erratically Thanksgiving night in 1990.

In June 1991, the board publicly reprimanded Richter. - Associated Press
