ST. GERARD'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Orange Avenue at Eighth Street Northwest, is observing Black History Month. Two former Roanoke priests will celebrate Mass. The Rev. John Boddie, assistant at Holy Spirit Church in Virginia Beach, will be the guest Sunday at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. The Rev. Walter Barrett, a former pastor of St. Gerard's and now pastor of St. Mary's Church of Norfolk, will officiate on Feb. 21 at 10 and 5. The St. Gerard Gospel Choir will sing on Feb. 21 at 6 p.m.

\ BLACK HISTORY MONTH will be observed at Williams Memorial Baptist Church with a concert Feb. 21 at 4 p.m. and a recitation of the Martin Luther King address "I Have A Dream" by Bobby Sparrow. Groups from the African Methodist Episcopal churches at Cave Spring and Hales Ford will sing. The church is at 2105 Carroll Ave. N.W.

\ CONSTRUCTION IS UNDER WAY on the new St. Philip Lutheran Church north of Hollins College. Martin Brothers Contractors Inc. expects the building to be ready by early summer. The church is relocating from Peters Creek and Williamson roads. The church sold that property to an auto dealership. Services are held at Trinity Lutheran each Sunday at 8:30 a.m.

\ FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH, 344 Church Ave. S.W. in downtown Roanoke, has scheduled a six-week Lenten study program for the community. The small-group discussions will be led by staff members Jim Rivers and Kim Brabham. Sessions will begin on Feb. 26 and will continue each Friday night from 7:30 to 9:30 through April 2. First Christian is affiliated with the Disciples of Christ. Call 342-5144 to register.

\ THE REV. JANET RAMSEY has left the pastorate of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Vinton after two years to pursue further graduate studies. The Rev. Harold Uhl is serving as interim pastor.

\ THE REV. JUDY DAHL of Ventura, Calif., will lead a day of spiritual renewel March 7 at Metropolitan Community Church of the Blue Ridge.

\ THE REV. R. STUART CARLTON, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church of Salem, is on a 10-day trip to Hungary, Bulgaria and Croatia as part of a team of Virginia Southern Baptists investigating mission opportunities in the former Iron Curtain countries. The team is seeking ways to help refugees from the civil war in the Balkan area.

\ WASHINGTON BIBLE COLLEGE will offer two classes in its adult extension program beginning Tuesday. The classes will be at Calvary Memorial Church, 2226 Colonial Ave. S.W.

A study of the New Testament books of II Peter, II and III John and Jude will be taught by the Rev. Kenneth Amsler from 7 to 8:15 p.m. A second class surveying the Old Testament books of Genesis through Deuteronomy will be offered by the Rev. Lance B. Duncan from 8:20 to 9:30.
