PVT. MARK C. BOWLING, son of William S. Bowling of 1707 Ellis Court and Linda A. Whitlock of 2742 Fletcher Circle, Salem, has completed basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

Bowling is a 1992 graduate of Salem High School.

\ PVT. STEVEN W. HUMPHREY, son of Barbara J. Charles of 2918 Peters Creek Road and James W. Humphrey of Pebbles, Ohio, has completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Humphrey is a 1992 graduate of Northside High School.

\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT DEXTER R. MONTGOMERY, son of Kenneth A. and Malinda L. Muncy of 6663 Corntassel Lane, has completed recruit training at San Diego.

Montgomery is a 1992 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 2ND CLASS OSCAR LANGHORN, son of Juanita Langhorn of 1031 Syracuse Ave. N.W., recently was promoted to his present rank while serving aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Kidd, based in Norfolk.

\ CPL. MARVIN C. BROWN, son of Virginia P. Brown of 5521 Twilight Road and Marvin C. Brown Sr. of 1742 20th St., recently received the Good Conduct Medal.

The medal recognizes Brown's service over a three-year period.

Brown, a 1988 graduate of Northside High School, currently is assigned to Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, N.C.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS MORGAN M. FOSTER, son of Norreda J. and Ray M. Foster Jr. of Blue Ridge, recently was selected instructor of the quarter at Submarine Training Facility in Norfolk.

Foster is a 1983 graduate of Staunton River High School.
