KRISTEN HUFFMAN, daughter of Gwen Williams of Roanoke and Gary Huffman of Moneta, won the State Young Woman of the Year Scholarship, a full four-year grant to attend Troy (Ala.) State University.Huffman, a freshman chemistry major and graduate of Lord Botetourt High School, was Virginia's Young Woman of the Year for 1992.
\ MARGARET E. BOURDEAUX, a senior at Patrick Henry High School, is one of two students from Virginia selected to attend the Century III Leaders Conference in Williamsburg in March.
The students will study national and world issues, work to develop strategic solutions and hone leadership skills while meeting with leaders in business, education and government.
The honor also includes a $1,000 college scholarship.
\ GINA HILGER, a senior at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., recently received the NCAA Scholar-Athlete Award in basketball.
Hilger, daughter of Mr.and Mrs. Jerry Hilger of Blue Ridge, is a 1989 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.
\ ERIC TRETHEWEY, associate professor of English and creative writing at Hollins College, has been awarded the Cynthia Cahn Memorial Poetry Prize for 1992.
The Anhinga Press in Tallahassee, Fla., gave Trethewey the prize for his poem "Wait," which it called "the best original, unpublished poem in English."
\ KATHY SHANNON DAVIS, daughter of Harry and Mary Jo Shannon of Roanoke, recently received a doctorate degree in human resource management from the University of Maryland at College Park.
Davis, an assistant professor in the College of Management at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1977, James Madison University in 1981 and received a master's degree from Virginia Tech in 1982.
