THE REV. R. STUART CARLTON, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church of Salem, is on a 10-day trip to Hungary, Bulgaria and Croatia as part of a team of Virginia Southern Baptists investigating mission opportunities in the former Iron Curtain countries. The team is seeking ways to help refugees from the civil war in the Balkan area.

\ SALEM CHURCH OF CHRIST, 401 W. Main St., has scheduled a banana-split social Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. The social, sponsored by the Bible school of the church, is free to the community.

\ THE REV. JUDY DAHL of Ventura, Calif., will lead a day of spiritual renewal March 7 at Metropolitan Community Church of the Blue Ridge.

Dahl is author of "River of Promise: Two Women's Story of Love and Adoption." Her theme, "Re-imaging God," will be presented at workshops at 1 and 7:30 p.m. at the congregation's meeting place at 2015 Grandin Road S.W. A dinner is planned at 5 at The Roanoker restaurant. \ WASHINGTON BIBLE COLLEGE will offer two classes in its adult extension program beginning Tuesday. The classes will be at Calvary Memorial Church, 2226 Colonial Ave. S.W.

A study of the New Testament books of II Peter, II and III John and Jude will be taught by the Rev. Kenneth Amsler from 7 to 8:15 p.m. A second class surveying the Old Testament books of Genesis through Deuteronomy will be offered by the Rev. Lance B. Duncan from 8:20 to 9:30.
