WANT TO HEAR LARRY KING BY DAY? THEN WRITE HIM IN
Roanoke's news and talk radio station is waiting to see if Larry King is a success on daytime before tuning him in.King "has been doing overnight so long no one knows how he'll be" during the day, says Bill Bratton, operations manager of WFIR (960 AM). "Maybe mid-year we'll look at him."
After 15 years of overnight radio, King moved to days hot on the heels of Rush Limbaugh's success with his noon to 3 p.m. show. King debuted Feb. 1 with his 3-6 p.m. show on more than 200 stations - half the number of stations that aired his overnight show, according to Broadcasting magazine.
In the meantime, WFIR is continuing with the Gene Burns show, which broadcasts from Boston, and follows Limbaugh at 3 to 5 p.m.
If listeners want King, Bratton says to write the station or call him at 345-1511. Letters and calls from listeners is what's bringing back clinical psychologist Joy Brown who was replaced by Lee Mirabel.
Brown returns Monday and will air weekdays at 10 a.m.
