NEW RIVER ADVANCES 7 IN TOURNAMENT
Seven New River District wrestlers advanced to the semifinals at the Region IV tournament Friday at Graham High School in Bluefield.
District champion Carroll County led the New River teams in seventh place with 28 points and three winners - Justin Barnard (112 pounds), Greg Lineberry (119) and Joseph Martin (152).
Radford was eighth with 22 points and two winners - Jason Bondurant (140) and Tommy Tinley (heavyweight). Blacksburg had one winner - Bryan Henry (135) - and was 10th with 19 points. Though Christiansburg did not finish among the top teams, the Demons did have a winner - Kirk Linkous (103).
Marion was the highest-scoring Timesland team in third place with 56 points.
