APCO STARTS BUILDING WYTHEVILLE-AREA CENTER

Appalachian Power Co. broke ground Friday for a $2.3 million, 21,000-square- foot service center serving Wythe, Bland and Pulaski counties.

Apco will maintain its building in downtown Wytheville as a business office, but will move 14 of the 22 employees now working there to the new facility when it is completed next spring.

The service center will be on 15 acres next to the Fairview Industrial Park, off U.S. 21. Apco President Joseph Vipperman said the Wytheville area is among the fastest-growing of any served by the utility. With its transportation facilities, developable land, work force and other assets, he said, "There should be growth in the future and we want to be part of that growth."
