NAMES & CHANGES

Carilion Health System picks new chairman

ARCHIE E. CROMER JR. of Christiansburg has been elected chairman of the board of directors of Carilion Health System, a Roanoke company operating hospitals and several health-care related firms. He has served on the Carilion board of directors since 1988 and was elected vice chairman in 1992.

Currently, he is a representative to the American Hospital Association with an appointment to the Committee on Governance and as chairman of the Region 3 Congress of Hospital Trustees. Since 1984, he has been chairman of the Southwest Virginia Health Services, the parent company of Radford Community Hospital.

A member of the board of directors of First National Bank of Christiansburg, he is the retired owner of Cromer Furniture in Christiansburg.

BANKING

The Bank of Floyd has reorganized its executive staff and named LEON MOORE president and chief executive officer.

Moore joined the bank in 1988 as senior vice president and became executive vice president and chief executive officer in 1990. He also serves on the bank's board of directors.

A graduate of East Tennessee State University and the Graduate School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University, he has worked in the banking field for 29 years. He was president of The National Bank of Chilhowie for eight years and worked as senior vice president and area manager of Central Fidelity Bank's Smyth County location.

Also, LAWRENCE M. RENFROE has been named Bank of Floyd's executive vice president in charge of loan administration. He joined the bank in 1991 as senior vice president in charge of lending. Formerly senior vice president and cashier at the First and Merchants National Bank of Radford and its successors, United Virginia Bank and Crestar Bank, he was senior vice president and retail division head of Crestar's Roanoke Valley bank and regional manager of Crestar's Northern Retail Region. He also worked as Crestar's community development officer.

A graduate of Virginia Tech, he holds a bachelor of science degree in economics and finance.

\ JUANITA H. ELLETT and BRENDA S. WHITE have been promoted to vice presidents at Central Fidelity Bank. Ellett has worked as a trust officer and trust administrator for 20 years in both the New River Valley and the Roanoke offices. A mortgage specialist with the bank since August of last year, White previously worked as a training consultant with NationsBanc Mortgage Corp. and as regional underwriting supervisor with Sovran Mortgage Corp.

Also, KRISTA C. AAMODT has been promoted to assistant vice president. An employee since 1989, she has worked as branch manager of the University Mall Blacksburg office and currently is a regional human resources employment specialist.

Dominion Bankshares Corp. has announced the election of CHRISTOPHER S. HARRISON to assistant vice president, KAREN L. EMANUELSON to fraud investigation officer and RICHARD E. SHAWN to corporate property officer.

Harrison, an asset reviewer, assists in the evaluation of commercial, construction and consumer loan portfolios.

Emanuelson is responsible for the analysis of operating losses for Dominion's Southwest Virginia offices and the coordination of recovery efforts.

Shawn, who is corporate property coordinator, supervises branch renovation, ATM installation and signage changes and is responsible for solving building access issues related to the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Also, CYNTHIA P. DANIELEY has been named a student loan officer at Dominion Bankshares Services, the bank card affiliate of Dominion Bankshares Corp. She is responsible for the computerized student loan origination and processing system.

DESIGN

\ J. MARC WALLER of Monroe has been appointed president of Dana Thayer International Design. He joined the firm in 1976 after holding design positions with General Electric and Giltspur Exposervices. Located in Monroe, east of Lynchburg in Amherst County, the company recently designed and developed the space shuttle simulator at Addison Aerospace Magnet Middle School in Roanoke.

ENGINEERING

Olver Inc., a Blacksburg consulting engineering firm and environmental laboratory, has announced the following staff additions.

\ STEVE A. BRATTON has been appointed manager of technical services, air quality. He will specialize in the development and implementation of contemporary solutions to air quality management problems. He formerly worked as an environmental chemist in air quality at the State of North Carolina Department of Environmental Health and Natural Resources.

\ FRED C. FREDERICK has been named manager of the organics section of the environmental laboratory. A graduate of Virginia Tech, he previously worked with Coastal Remediation in Roanoke.

\ VIRGINIA WOODS GERDE has been joined the firm as a project engineer in the technical services division. She will focus her attention on remedial design/remedial action activities for Olver's Superfund projects.

Also, R. LAWRENCE HOFFMAN has been promoted to director of laboratories. He will oversee the firm's chemical and biological laboratory operations. An employee for 10 years, he formerly worked as the company's manager of environmental biology.

FIBER OPTICS

\ TED LEONARD has joined Optical Cable Corp. as sales manager for the Western region of the United States. He was previously employed by ITT, Alcatel Network Systems and Alcatel Telecommunications Cable, where he worked with communications systems engineering, sales of fiber optic components, fiber and systems produced in Roanoke.

LAW

\ JOHN R. ALEXANDER has become associated with Coulter & Coulter in Roanoke. A graduate of Lynchburg College and the George Mason University School of Law, his practice will include domestic relations, personal injury, wills, traffic and criminal law. He formerly practiced in Warrenton.

\ LOUIS R. SHOWALTER, vice president and general manager of Nelson-Roanoke Corp., has been elected to the board of directors of the International Hardware Distributors Association. The organization is the result of the consolidation of the American Wholesale Hardware Association and the National Wholesale Hardware Association.
